Jim Cullum died yesterday. Most of the world knows him as a Dixielandland coronet player and for his 23 years at The host of Riverwalk Jazz broadcast live from his club on the San Antonio Riverwalk.

I got to know Jim a little through business dealings. He tried to hire me to be his agent, I tried to sign his records to my label, we had a some lunches, conversations, and phone calls. I hired him to kick off the show for the San Antonio's Mardis Gras Celebration at the Arneson River Theatre three years in a row and in 2017 featured, for the last time ever on stage together, the original Jim Cullum Happy Jazz Band line-up.

Jim was a funny guy and a fine jazz artist.

What many people, including those in San Antonio, don't know is how instrumental Jim Cullum was in making the Riverwalk what it is. He and few other ambitious restaurateurs and bar owners schemed, plotted, and planned ways to get people down to a shady, military "off-limits" area to spend money, and see music every weekend. At the end of the night, Jim and company would go by every club and talk to the owners about crowds, sales, what they sold, how much and every detail. They'd compare notes and try and make another grand plan for the next weekend. Their shenanigans have resulted in many traditions that carry on this day, including dying the river green for St. Patty's Day. These practices were the beginnings of the Paseo del Rio aka the San Antonio Riverwalk Association and Jim Cullum was it's first and founding President. I'm proud to say that Peterson Entertainment, Llc has been a member of SARWA throughout all of our dealings with Jim Cullum.

Jim worked closely with people who loved and believed in the future of San Antonio, including one developer would you buy and rehab hotels and sell them for no profit under the condition that new owners face their properties towards the Riverwalk.

For SARWA's 50th celebration, Jim and two of his early SARWA cronies who made the Riverwalk was it is today, gave a lovely recounting of stories and moments. It was humbling to be among such giants knowing that we are now those carrying that tradition forward with our events, marketing, schemes, plans, and collaborations. All very much in line with the way Jim Cullum started doing business.

RIP Mr. Cullum. I'm thrilled to have known you, worked with you and heard many of your stories. Yesterday the world lost a great jazz artist, another fine Texan moved on to that big ranch in the sky, and San Antonio lost an historic icon. Thank you for all you have done. We promise to work and protect your legacy here in San Antonio and on the Riverwalk.

So.... I'm at my gig at Bending Branch Winery last weekend.  I'm doing my thing, having a good ole time, but there's a lot wind.  It's an outdoor gig (it's Texas, LOTS of outdoor gigs).   And I put up the folder and the music as it's just too much to deal with.   My wife says, it's a pretty big change when you put the music stand away.  (I have yet to clarify if that's a good of bad thing.)    And then, at my airport gig on Monday, there's no mic stand.  This means I have no place to mount my tray for my hand percussion and no place to hold the mic for announcements,  beat boxing, vocal effects, and singing.    So I did a different show....

I've been thinking about how to change things up with the show for a while, so I wasn't "unprepared" for this.  Suffice to say things went well.

I set up my gear and have been jamming the past two days exploring some grooves and transitions.  I'm liking it quite a bit.  I even busted out my newly purchased AKAI EWI5000.  I'm liking that even more.  That thing takes a minute to get a handle on and I still don't have it "down."  But I'm really digging the electro-jams and I'm even trying out my effects pedals on it - that's hit and miss.

I do want to alter the signal chain, but that's going to involve some MIDI clock sync, which isn't the hardest thing in the world, but I'm loathe to get into it.  I currently have a very convenient and effective solution, but I don't think that's going to hold up.  Oh well..I'll figure it out.    In the meantime.... back to jams.

My self imposed vacation is officially over.  It was a necessary thing.  I finally feel like my old self.   Got some attitude, got some desire, ready to work.

It took longer than expected.  This aging thing sucks.  Oh well.... nothing to be done about it.

After a couple weeks of "slowing down" I ended my time with a trip to Pittsburgh for a return appearance at Phillter Fest.  4 days of music, communal living, and lots of convo with other artists.    The line-up was tight. I got see and hang with Kalimbaman, saw some old friends, made some new ones, and had my musical world rocked with the crushing awesomeness of Napom.    I came back very tired from staying up late and getting up early and my sets were crisp, clean, and full of delicious sax licks.

I jumped straight back into work with my usual Monday schedule.  Bucho was happy to have daddy home and is purring on my lap as I write.   I continue with my office reorganization.  I've replaced my ancient printer and continue to try and get rid of thing I don't need in my tiny space.  I spent some time on my EWI and borrowed synth, cleaned out a bunch of emails, and had a meeting with the city clerk about my upcoming performance for the inauguration of the Mayor next week.  Now if I could only sell this 18 inch sub....

I need a weekly residency.  I've been wanting one for a bit, but haven't really done too much to chase it down.  Although I'm really looking into it more.  I'd like to return to J&O's, but I haven't popped in there for a while and don't believe they are even open on the day I want to do it.

I've got a fair amount of house stuff to do, but the weather is keeping me inside.  Between the rain and the bugs, I can't really get to it.  Although I'm getting to the little things as best I can. Speaking of little things, I'm really unhappy with my power solutions for my various rigs.  And, while I greatly enjoyed my festival time, I'm so done with traveling that I can actually get a pedal board for a permanent solution and better storage, set-up, and presentation.   Good times.  Should probably get back to it...

NEW NEWS:

The West Kings Highway farewell show was epic.  Friends and fans old and new showed up to bid us adieu.  The band went out with a bang, many shots were had, and despite a thundershower - people stayed and got soaked with us.  Tears, laughter, gifts, and tequila was in abundance.  Thanks to everyone for a very special night.  Best band break-up ever.

The Solo Sax Sessions is coming along quite nicely.  I'm getting much more fluid with the tech.  The show is evolving and has a super-hip/chill vibe going on.  It's very cool.  And I've got new stickers in!!!!

Widespread Noise has a new release out "Concrete" from The Texas LoopFest.  23 minutes of wack-a-doodle noise/music.

Texas LoopFest videos... I've hit a tech snag and haven't posted anything new in a few weeks.  Should get it worked out in the next couple of weeks and start posting vids again in the middle of the month. www.texasloopfest.com

Last month's recap:  May in the rearview:  Mondays at the airport were a little challenging, it's always different when you're developing a show.  Especially when it's weekly 4 hour gigs.  That's a lot of mental energy.  West Kings Highway played their last show.  GrooveTronX has taken the lead in my musical life and Johnny has new tech and new jams that are greatly affecting our performance.  Really looking forward to pushing into a new direction with this!  The past couple of weeks I've been taking time for myself.  Sleeping in, going to bed early, getting caught up on paperwork (done!), gear repairs (done!), organizing things, getting rid of stuff in the office, doing housework, yardwork, etc..., basically getting ready for the next phase in life.   I was wiped out from a pretty intense few months.  I've been going hard since January and really needed to decompress, sleep, veg out and restore my spirit.  Pretty much there.  Not quite back to my old self, but close enough.  Even managed to squeeze in some time to play some duets with my horn tech!

What's on deck?  A little bit of travel.  Got some out of town shows including the PHILLTER Music Festival in Pittsburgh, PA.  That's going to be a blast!   Couple of wineries, and looks like I'm booked to do the Mayoral inauguration for San Antonio.  Got one little scheudle hiccup to work through, but we'll see.  Other than that, just the residencies for me and GrooveTronX.  Time to get off the couch and get back to work!   Gotta fill that schedule up!

I'm back.  I'm starting to feel restless and I'm making up stuff to do to keep me occupied.  While my self-imposed "slow-down" has been greatly needed it ends this week.  I've got an out of town thing to do, so I'll be "forced" to continue my vacation. Which means I should be fired up and ready to dive into things.

I've found myself thinking a lot about the way to steer things for the next couple of years.  Starting to put together some ideas and will get working on a plan soon.  Still need to see how a couple of opportunities play out.  Could be interesting.  I still need a little more change, and this could be perfect.

For the moment, just trying to stay on top of things and make progress where possible.  It's working.  Even getting in a little music work!  Played with the machines the other night, probably gonna get some sax time in today after a short shift at the KWA. Started working on resolving my adobe Premier problems...got the first headache out of the way, but it ain't perfect yet.  Might has to do a work around.  We'll see how that goes....

Well Monday was fun. The cat woke me up with his usual "love me lots" shenanigans, got my work out in, got some computer time in, got some chores done, and went off to the Airport gig.

Saw my high school friend Shanda Baker. She came into town with her family for a track meet in Corpus and was at the airport as I was doing my thing. Great to see her and meet the crew. Saw my friend Melissa as well. I'm also getting to know the custodians, TSA, and some of the vendor staff; it's a fun and wackly little world over at the airport. I like it though! Started giving out the new stickers (one new spotify follower already!).

After that, I grabbed the wife and went to a double-graduation party for a friend and GrooveTronX was the band. Hung out after for food, wine, conversation, bumped into people I knew, and had a great time.

Came home to chill the wife for a bit, had a snack, and called it a night.
It's nice to not be under the gun for once.  I still have a lot to do , but there's zero pressure.  I'm soaking it up.  I'm also not screwing up what I have on my plate.  Still getting things done and making progress.  But the pace is relaxed.   I do need to fix my video editing software, that needs to get done.  And I need to mow.  I should probably go do that.

Wow.... what a year so far.

Been trying to R&R since Fiesta got over at the end of the month.  Of course, when you help run a huge event, it doesn't go away over night.  We're still doing clean-up, but my day job is back to the part-time status.  West Kings Highway is over.  Last gig is done.  Hit some changes in the personal life as well.

While I've been very eager for these things to happen, I'm also weary.  I don't mean tired or worn out like I need some sleep or a few days off.  Physically I'm rested up, my body feels good. I've got plenty of sleep.  I'm weary in my heart and my mind.   I've been filling up some of time with catch-up busy work.  All the little things that needed to get done.  Small projects, organizing. And focusing on getting rest.  I've been doing some long-put off house work and yard work.  Still have plenty of that to do.  I am feeling better, but still lacking spirit.  I think this is normal.

This particular revolution with The Fair was hard on me and the rest of the staff.  But the mood has lightened and we're keeping positive over there.  It was a successful event and we did a great job.  But it had it's particular challenges and frustrations this year.  And day of was a beautiful thing.  I've never had so much time to walk and watch, so few problems, and had such an enjoyable day.  Fast set-up and clean-up as well.  We're getting this thing down. Lots of room for improvement though.

Musically, I'm about to start a new chapter.  It was exciting at first, but now I'm not quite ready to get it going.  I still need some time.   I purchased some new gear, got some things ready to go.  I've been developing a new thing with the Solo Sax Sessions and I'm liking where it's going, but it still needs a lot of work.  I've got some tech that's sitting around, neglected, but I'm not ready to jump on that yet either.  All soon enough.

Mostly, I just want to not get wrapped up in anything for a bit and hang out with my wife.  There's some opportunities coming up that could keep me very busy.  So I'm trying to take the time to chill and get ready for it now.  I'm still doing the busy work and some label stuff.  Gotta keep on top of that. Still need to do a little gear playing around as well.

West Kings - - that was a great run.  And a great last show.  I'm sorry to see it go, but it was time.  It'll be weird to not have gigs every Friday, but I'm sure that'll fill up soon enough and I'll make sure and get some fun stuff in with the wife.

All in all, things have been an emotional drain for quite some time.  And lots of changes now.   We've hit the next stage in our lives and a bunch of goals have been accomplished in the past few months.  But things have been on hold due to my schedule and now things have really opened up for me.   I guess need to draw up the next set of battle plans and get to it.  But first a little more R&R, and I need to do some office work so my "flow" is functional.  I'm at a stop for a minute due to a lack of folders.  I'll pick those up today and get about some busy work.  Once I get that off my mind, the papers off my desk, and my inbox empty; it'll be time.  Until then, I'm in no rush. I'm getting plenty of sleep, easing off on the booze, keeping up on the workouts, yard work, and trying to keep my mouth shut.

A new era beings for me at Sanchos on Friday.  I better bring it.  Can't be dicking around with that gear anymore.

Maybe I'm ready to jump back in it after all...

NEW NEWS:

West Kings Highway is no more.   After 20 years, Johnny Carrera is calling it a day.  It's been a great run, the last version of the band was by far the best. Our final performance is May 10th at Sanchos Cantina y Cocina 7 to 9pm.  Bring your friends and family for our goodbye show.  We will be releasing a post mortem live recording.

My Solo Sax Sessions had landed a new residency: The 3rd Friday of the month at Sanchos Cantina from 7 to 9pm.  Next one is May 17th!   Expect a completely different show that what you're used to.  I'll be exploring my existing tech and I'm looking at adding more.

And now that Fiesta is over, I'm getting back into the swing of things.  Literally.  After a long hiatus I'm getting back into the jazz business.  Expect to see iterations of the "Noah Peterson (insert combo size)"  popping up at your local jazz joints.

GrooveTronX has a new digital release out!  GrooveTronX at the San Antonio Coffee Festival.  This 6 song, 58 minute release was recorded live on January 5th at La Villita for the San Antonio Coffee Fest.  We were the opening band and provided a background of funky perfection as thousands sipped a variety of morning brews on a very pleasant January morning.

Texas LoopFest videos are going up!   I've got a few up and more will be going in short order!  www.texasloopfest.com

Last month's recap:  April is over...   and what a month it was.  A full month of Mondays at the airport with some crazy sax loops and a Zydeco gig started things off.  I was a late addition as a panelist for Music Biz Day as part of UTSA's annual event. My session was about being a professional musician.  Multi-grammy winner Henry Brun introduced me with something along the lines of "This next guy is a little more gritty."  Good times were had.    West Kings Highway had a very busy month.  And then made the decision to break-up.  Taco Fest was an epic weekend of work and fun and a hug success.  Met up with some Marine buddies, got on TV a ton, played Fiesta gigs, attended some Fiesta events, and put on the King William Fair.  All in all, pretty awesome month.

What's on deck?  Not much, got some shows, got some tech to wok on, got lots of recordings to do and preparations to make.

Home early on Easter Sunday.  I'm sipping some gin in water, listening to the newly mastered GrooveTronX recording "Jam Skate."  The wife is cleaning the house and has a turkey in the oven.  Weather is perfect.  Had a few moments and wanted to reflect on the 2019 Fiesta so far.

I feel like I prepared well for the physical challenges of it.  I've been having regular weekend events of increasing scale 2 to 3 times a month since January.   Been keeping up with the workouts (until this week) and watching the beer and sweets, which is tough this time of year.  Although the real schedule began on Thursday.  The "day job" normally balloons into full time or overtime by now.   I'm still keeping things 3/4 or less on the hours and I'm still running a bunch of non-fair things as well.  We'll see how this week turns out.  4 Shows, 3 media appearances, 2 Fiesta events, and Fair week.  Good times.

I'm really looking forward to the fair being over.  The association has eaten up a lot of my wife since last summer.  I'm itching to spend more time back with my music and my own biz.   I really wanted to dive into my tech, write some tunes, develop my shows more, practice, get my studio chops up, got a bunch of projects to polish off, and basically move things forward.

I felt like I've been treading water for a while.  It was the thing to do.  Had a bunch of personal things going on that were wrapping up.  And they finally did.  I feel like a chapter in the plan just closed and now it's time to move on to the next.  I'm pretty fired up about it.  I'm eager, discontent, and ready to push things.  I just need my time back.   It's been an interesting year for new developments and opportunities.

I feel very lucky and blessed.

That's on top of working my ass off.   And it's not to say it's all roses and rainbows.  It's not.  But's sheesh... the "problems" I have in my work.  Yeah.  It's kinda all roses and rainbows if you don't mind hard work and can deal effectively with problems.

Nothing like that moment when you've built something effective and then some ass-hat comes in and fucks it all up.

Oh well.  No point in wallowing in it.  Not the first time this has happened and it won't be the last.

The part that rankles me is having to watch it get just get mishandled day after day after day... it breeds contempt.

Music at the San Antonio Airport (SAT) started last summer.  Several artists were selected and invited to test and develop the program.  Under the supervision of Matt Evans locations were tried out, logistics were figured out, and schedules were planned out.  Since then, the program has expanded to open auditions for new talent.

The music program at SAT showcases local talent for guests flying in and out of San Antonio.   Several of the artists from the start of the program have regular locations and performance dates.  I am one of those artists.

It's a pleasure and an honor to have been chosen to represent San Antonio for so many visitors.  Every Monday I bring all of my tech and spend 4 hours jamming out.  Every show is different. The vibe is different every time, the response varies constantly.  Tips and CD sales fluctuate wildly. If I see a musician hanging out and listening, I ask them to come up and jam.  I've had students jam with me, pros from South America that I couldn't speak with, people from across the U.S.  I try and have fun with it.  Whenever my boss comes out to check on me, he always takes a look around and sees people bobbing their heads, tapping toes and fingers, and babies (and sometimes grown-ups) dancing.

It's a crazy gig.  It's not for everyone.  Logistics matter. You have to be on time.  You don't get paid right away.  Gotta haul gear.   You have to get through TSA.  Hint -be nice, talk to them.  You're going to see them a lot.  May as well be friendly.  Same thing with the workers in the stores.

I get a lot of cell phone pics and vids taken.   I need to order some stickers.  I'm selling CDs there.  I need better signs.

NEW NEWS:

April is here - that means FIESTA in San Antonio!   This "party with a purpose" has over 100 official member organizations putting on events over three weekends in April: 3 million people will attend these events and generate 1/3 of a billion dollars during this commemoration of the battles of The Alamo and San Jacinto.  This is the heart of Texas.   I'm part of the team that puts on The King William Fair - the "Locals Only" Fiesta favorite of San Antonio.  I'm "King William" so there's going to be parades, TV, radio, and social-media-a-plenty in the coming weeks.  As a musician I've got some great Fiesta gigs lined up for me and my bands!

Peterson Entertainment, llc will be providing site management services for Taco Fest on April 13th! VIP tickets are sold out and general admission tickets are 2/3rds sold out.

I'll be a panelist at the UTSA Music Biz Day on April 6th and later that evening I'll be getting down with some zydeco at Riley's Tavern for their crawfish boil with Jean-Pierre and the Zydeco Angels from 4 to 6pm.  That's a rare reunion show of the best line-up of that band ever.

And the Solo Sax Sessions had landed a new residency: The 3rd Friday of the month at Sanchos Cantina from 7 to 9pm.  Once in a while it'll be a GrooveTronX jam, but it's mostly going to be some funky sax loops.

Last month's recap:  March was intense!  The King William Fair preparations are in full swing and taking up LOTS of time and there's some GREAT new things coming this year.  The Texas LoopFest was a smashing success complete with 3 TV appearances, great press, great venues, and great performances.  Videos will be going up in the coming weeks!  Peterson Entertainment, llc did the sound for celebrity Chef Johnny Hernendaz's 10th Annual Paella Challenge and we did a fabulous job.  Compliments came in for days!

What's on deck?  Taco Fest and Fiesta.  28 days till it's all over. This is my last weekend of sleep.

Well... that was intense.

Got rested up a little bit and didn't party very hard, so the long week with no sleep wasn't too bad.  Although I did prep it with a month of 7 days a week, day and night work, so I'm just grinding it out at this point.

Note to self:  Have a spare one-spot.  Larger venues require a crew.  Free stuff is good.  Move it back a week.

From behind the board:  It's always rough mixing on the fly. It's even rougher in a strange room, on a strange board, and then there's the signal path and/or gear.  That being said.  I did work it out.  Eventually.  Some of the mixes are tough.   Things that are difficult to deal with: feedback in the loop, ring in the loop, distortion in the loop, gain staging.  I cannot stress enough the importance of gain staging.  Too little or too much was the order of the day.  The last knob on the last device is not the only output knob to be adjusted.  Oh yeah... I need a sound tech.

From the stage: gotta have a stage manager....just gotta. stage hand would help as well.

Really, really want to live stream.  Just couldn't do that too this year.

Buncha little things to be tightened up:  greeter, donations, prizes, email collection, promotion (although that was tight!), venues. artist advance, gear staging, load-in, load-out.  Needs to be more fun.  Focus on the gear.  Add some gear vendors. Sponsors.

Job well done though.  Big strides made, excellent performances.

It's really hard to get a few moments to write here.  People think it's not much, but it's huge.  I don't have time to do shit.  Ever.  Life is busy, and when you've got a dozen hustles going to bring in the rent, there's not time for much else.

But I've been lucky. I get a few moments here and there to interact with friends, and have take a lot of time to hang with my wife.  But to really spend a few moment to do this...i should be sleeping, or getting ready for something, or fixing something, or....

I'm also at the point in my life to not be afraid to take a moment.  I just watched the bio-pic on Queen and was tremendously moved.  I grew up with Queen. I was, and still am, a radio junkie and spent hundreds of hours glued to MTV, back when it mattered.  I don't think I understood what a profound effect that band had on me.  This movie had me crying like a bitch.  Every song had memory after memory shooting through my head, and then, memories of all the songs they didn't play.

Rock and Roll is such a personal experience.  The lyrics, the beat, the mood, the groove, the time.... it's a defining collective moment.  No other music really gets it done like that.  I wonder if the generations after mine, experience music the same way.  It's not just defining, it is us.  Radio Ga Ga is me.  It's my life.  Maybe that's sad, but not to me.  And to see a nice Hollywood story... well that was just great.  I don't know.... music is such a thing.  I often forget what I'm really doing.  I'm grateful for being in Texas where everybody takes this shit seriously.   I don't take getting on stage lightly down here.

But that movie... damn.   I don't know if I'm going to be the same musician on stage as I was.  There's doing the job and there's fuck you.  I'm really okay with any of it.

But I'm an emotional man.... it'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow when I do 4 hours of improve jams at the airport.  I usually kill it and read the room well, but now...

New Release From Saxophonist Noah Peterson

Loop station artist Noah Peterson has just released "One Man Jams." This appropriately dubbed solo effort doesn't sound at all like one man.

With songs ranging from three to nine minutes in length, there's a little something for everyone on here. It's definitely a light-hearted romp through upbeat grooves that won't bring you down.

It's a digital release only - so be sure to find it on your favorite streaming platform. And it's a "live looping" production. Which means it's all done with zero pre-production, live, in one take, with no edits. Just the man and his machines making music out of thin air.

Check it out, have some fun - you'll be glad you did.

NEW NEWS:

It's Christmas time!  What could be better than those dusty ol' Christmas jams from days of yesteryear?  Why these new Christmas gems of course!  Here's our Spotify Holiday Playlist for you to enjoy (relatively) new Christmas Jams from me and my friends.

Last month's recap:  Boy did November fly by...  got some family time in, got some personal time in, worked production for Luminaria (my stage rocked!), played some ambient music for morning yoga at "A Day in Southtown," GrooveTronX played the Hot Wells Harvest Fest and did our first out-of-town gig, plus all the usual haunts including the steady Mondays with the Solo Sax Sessions at the airport.  It was a great month.

What's on deck? Peterson Entertainment, Llc is assisting with the San Antonio Coffee Festival.  It's 7th annual SA Coffee Fest: January 5th.  It's awesome.  Tickets this year!  Although it's limited to 7K in attendance this year.  www.facebook.com/events/200535514159224/    We're working on a deal with a local folk artist and hope to have things in put in place in December to start our working relationship in 2019.    And the Texas LoopFest is set for March 2019!  Check for updates on the website and facebook pages.

GrooveTronX: "Fiesta" is our most recent release.  Facebook  Spotify

The end of the year is almost here.   It's been winding down nicely.    I'd have to say I think 2018 is the year things really came together in a lot of ways for me.

It's my first real year not being on the road.   My out-of-town gigs were minimal and almost no over-nighters.  That's a pretty big life change.   Time is used very differently.  I cranked out a lot of audio and video content for the digital world.  That was pretty awesome.  Got a few items picked up by some playlists and that was pretty awesome.

Production services for events were way up.  The best I've ever done on a year.  Stage head, stage manager, site manager, sound, lights, event production, talent buying, running crews, setting up stages, marketing, promotions: all way up in 2018.  Very happy about that.  Might have even found some new work sources and found some great new crew members.

West Kings Highway is really blossoming into a very nice musical unit.   5 guys who play a lot together, listen, and really care about what they're doing.  It's great.  Our shows the past 6 months have all been great.  Something pretty sweet about Texas music.  I never think about it like that when I'm doing it, but when I hear it...  I think me not going away for several months out of the year has helped the band gel.  We went from juggling subs a lot to turning down gigs because not all us could do it.  I'd still like to be working with that band more.

GrooveTronX... what a weird, wacky bit of fun that is.  I like the lights.  I think it's time for something new in it though.  I think the two projects with me and Johnny, as well as some side recording stuff has really helped in our musical relationship.  Johnny is an endlessly creative guy and very interesting and open and fun to work with.  I'd still like to land a weekly with this somewhere so we could really push it creatively.

Jazz....2018 is year I got back in to jazz.  Kinda.  Barely.  Ok... a tried it a few times.  I think that all started last year with my invite to Holiday Saxophones at the Guadalupe Theatre.  I like saying that.  I still feel tremendously honored to have been included in that.  That's legit San Antonio musical acceptance.  I knew some of the guys there, that helped a lot.  All of the guys there know Johnny's dad and uncle so I had no problems talking with folks, the other players were very good.  It was impressive.  I had a blast.  I think that got me noticed by people outside my usual circles.  I did a couple of jazz nights at Franks while I was booking there before they were shut down.  I landed a couple of private gigs via some online booking services.  Pitched my services a few times for jazz.  Landed some jazz gigs at Tony G's, plus doing the GrooveTronX thing...picked up a few more private gigs.  Talked to a venue about doing some gigs...I dunno.  We'll see.  I want to do soul jazz.

My part-time day job became a lot more demanding of my time.  Instead of my usual summer off, I spent most of it at the office.  And things were busy with event pre-production and execution amid a lot of gigs, recordings, video production, and other business.  I did gigs during Fiesta this year.  Balancing the King William biz, gigs, event work, and King William media appearances was doable.  But it was draining.  Fiesta is going to be a week longer this year.  Yikes.  I'm going to literally be training for it.  It's gonna be awesome.

My personal life took a new direction on as well.  Not being on the road meant I got a lot more time with the wife, at the house, in my office.  I'm learning how to take time for all of that, including taking better care of myself.  That's all been new and nice.  But that doesn't mean long hours never happen.  They happen all the time. But now, so does some time off.  I'm keeping on top of things, but there's a lot of old, data-heavy projects in various forms of completion that haven't been nudged along in a few months...

The airport gig.  This is a fun new development in my life.  Love this gig.  It's hard, it's fun, it's challenging.  The vibe is different every day.  It really makes me dig deep inside.  And I've met some very interesting people.

Well this was nice to read!
